FREE~ Painting Positive Session

Painting Positive focuses your emotions, anxieties, and stresses and puts it on canvas, paper, wood and glass. You do not have to be an artist or formally trained in artistry. The important part is to take those feeling and turn it positive, take your mind off of the negative and refocus.

Welcome to the First Session! We are going to focus our energies on art. It does not have to be pretty, let's just have fun! Here are the supplies I used:

  • Small Canvas (3x5)

  • Paint - Red, Black, Green, Blue, White, Yellow,

  • Paint Brushes

  • Sharpie

Use your sharpie and draw a line down the center of the canvas. Before you put any paint on the canvas close your eyes. Focus on the one thing that is giving you the most anxiety or stress right now in your life. Breath in for four seconds through your nose. Hold it for five seconds. Release it from your mouth for four seconds. Repeat this five times. While breathing focus all of your anxious energy, what do you see? What color or colors are coming to the surface? What shape is this anxiety presenting itself as? And how is it making you feel?

Circle, Red, Mad, Square, Yellow, Sad

Open your eyes. On the left side of the canvas that you drew a line down. Grab the colors you saw and paint the shape you saw with those colors. Remember, we are putting the issue on the canvas, it does not need to look perfect. This is YOUR anxiety/stress/issues that you are taking from your head and putting on the canvas. Let the feeling you felt guide your painting of this shape. When I did it, I saw black with some gray in the center and redon the outer edges. The shape and feeling I had was frazzled and spikey. After I painted that shape with those colors I used my sharpie and made it into a monster. This is your outlet. Make it what you want.

On the right side of the canvas, you will close your eyes again. Imagine what you want that anxiety to feel and look like. What colors and shapes? I imagines it as yellow, blue, green and a fluffy circle that I also turned into a monster, but a happy monster.

This exercise helps you see part of what is going on in your mind. Brings those anxieties to the forefront of your mind to focus on making it change.
